Drinky Drinky at the Delano

My first time at the Delano Hotel in Miami was a warm October night. I was with a friend/colleague, spending the weekend in South Beach after business meetings. We dolled up and headed down Collins Ave to the tune of cat-calls and graphic compliments from guys along the street (I believe credit is due to my friend who is a gorgeous, teensy-weensy Latina).

The Delano is a far cry from the shady Best Western on Washington that we called home for the weekend (avoid at all costs!!), and for a few hours we faked celebrity status as we got invited into private bungalows lining the pool and had drinks bought for us by gorgeous guys.

If you can’t afford to stay at the Delano, make a point to go there for an overpriced but tasty cocktail. Have a cosmo at the pinky-red hued Rose Bar, bright and modern Blue Sea, old Hollywood Florida Room, or mattress-strewn pool deck.

Want to re-create one of their cocktails at home? Try this recipe for a blood orange martini from cooking.com:
1/4 cup chilled Stolichnaya orange vodka
2 tablespoons chilled Cointreau
1 tablespoon chilled Campari
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
6 ice cubes
Orange slice
Shake all ingredients except orange slice in cocktail shaker until shaker is frosted and very cold. Strain into one 8-ounce martini glass. Garnish with orange slice and serve immediately.
