Traveling with Pets

When down on Cape Cod this weekend we unintentionally stayed at a pet friendly hotel.  Chickadee was so psyched to see so many woof-woofs that he even gave one a kiss. As a non-dog owner I don't know the trials of trying to travel with your beloved family friend.  But after seeing one woman who planned her whole trip to be able to bring her small dog - only to be devastated to find out the beaches really weren't open for dogs until after the NEXT weekend - I knew I had to do some research so … [Read more...]

London on a Budget?

When I visited London, I had to put the dollar versus pound ratio out of my mind. I watched what I spent and where I spent it, but I focused more on finding bargains instead of calculating how much my Diet Coke would have cost me in the States. Check out this recent article on cnn.com for ways you can save when visiting this expensive city, including museums, dining, accomodations, and transportation. London on a budget? With a little research, it can be done. … [Read more...]

Know the Code: Cute pillows from West Elm

I went to West Elm recently, looking for decor for the new home Mr. JourneyChic and I will move into in two weeks.  Since we both love to travel, I'm hunting for items that inspire travel or are inspired by our travels (our new master bedroom will be based on our Santorini hotel room). I left the store empty-handed because really, it's silly to buy stuff only to move it in a few weeks, but these cute pillows displaying country codes may find a place on our couch. … [Read more...]

Foodie Fridays: Gazpacho

Labor Day may have come and gone, but summer is still not over. There are still (hopefully) a few warm days to enjoy some gazpacho. I love tomatoes so this chilled recipe is a perfect transition to warm tomato soup as colder days are unfortunately just around the corner. Ingredients 1 hothouse cucumber, halved and seeded, but not peeled 2 red bell peppers, cored and seeded 4 plum tomatoes 1 red onion 3 garlic cloves, minced 23 ounces tomato juice (3 cups) 1/4 cup white wine vinegar 1/4 cup good … [Read more...]

What a view!

Why eat at just any restaurant when you could eat somewhere with a stunning scene in front of you? Restaurants and bars with fabulous views are the subject of two recent articles from cnn.com and The Guardian.  I was pleased (and not surprised) to see that Restaurant 360in Istanbul, where I've dined twice, made The Guardian's list - not only is the food tasty and scene trendy, but seing Istanbul lit up at night from all angles is quite a treat. Great view and great meals include, but are not … [Read more...]

Portland: Local is the word

I’ve visited Portland, Maine several times now that my best friend from college has moved there. Over a recent girls’ weekend, I put my finger on the word that best describes this city – local. In the Old Port, you don’t see many chains. Well I did see a Starbucks but I must admit I am a fan of their vanilla lattes. Nonetheless, this area is filled with many cute local boutiques and eateries. Walking away from the Old Port , cafés are nestled in between houses in residential areas. On a … [Read more...]

Chic Eats: Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier

My dad suffered through many summer Saturdays in Kittery, Maine with my mom, grandma, and I as we slowly made our way through the town's countless outlet shops.  When we finally gave in to hunger, he drove away from Route 1 in search of the perfect uncrowded eatery. What he discovered was Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier. I can't recall when I first ate there, but I know I was pretty small. It's on a quiet (well, it used to be quiet) street, set down a steep hill on the bank of the … [Read more...]
