Summertime Switcheroo
With warmer weather finally here (mid-July!) it’s time to lighten up our decor.
First up are our living room chairs where Whiskey likes to nap. The original pillows are hand-painted and purchased on one of my business trips to South Africa. The dark brown picks up the dark leather couch, and well, all the other brown in the room (which I’m sure I’ll post about later). There are also hints of gold, which mimic the shimmer in our drapes.
For spring and summer, I wanted new pillowcases that would brighten up the room and coordinate with the bright colors in the art that’s on the mantel. I looked to Etsy for something unique and handmade, and found seller Ruby+Stella Home. The designs are bright, modern, and fun and while the Mr. isn’t so sure about the big floral print, I instantly loved them (and so did Whiskey).
On Saturday while taking in a beautiful day in Boston, we stopped at Macy’s to use the last of our wedding gift cards for a lightweight quilt. I freeze at night, he gets hot, and the down comforter was always in a massive pile at the foot of our bed. There weren’t many choices for quilts that didn’t have a country feel, so we settled on a white one with a subtle leafy pattern. I’d like to swap out the pillow shams for something else but don’t want to spend the $50 Macy’s was asking (on sale!). So I’ve got a project in mind…

It’s a subtle difference until we have new shams, but it works for us!
