After putting together the post on a Nantucket home designed by Frank Roop, I decided I needed more of him and his cool blue style.
I usually think that modern spaces look too stark and uncomfortable, but his spaces are neither of those things.
Both club chairs in what looks like a lush velvet and the oversize chaise on the right make me want to curl up with a good book, but the straight clean lines keep it modern. I like that the curves of the two stools separating the seating areas and the round coffee table keep the room from being too linear. I’ll take the cute pooch, too.
I grew up in a house with three sets of spiral staircases so the elegant curve of this one, mirrored by the large round table, really appeals to me.
Some may think that blue + purple + teal + crystal = a feminine combination, but the robust, dark furniture grounded by a geometric rug keep the space gender-neutral.
Now this is statement lighting at its best!
Here are my ideas for achieving the Frank Roop look on a budget:
- Pottery Barn Larchmont Chandelier (on sale!) – $299
- West Elm silk dupioni window panel (on sale!) – $34.95 for 96″
- Z Gallerie Mirage coffee table – $399
- Pier 1 ikat pillow (on sale!) – $17.95
- CB2 Wave pillow - $34.95
- West Elm Blake sofa – $1,199
- Z Gallerie Moroccan pedestal table – $149.95
- Pier 1 floral turqoise ceramic vases – $49.95 and up
- Pillowdecor.com silk dupioni pillow (on sale!) – $34.95
So, what do you think? Does it capture the modern but breezy Roop vibe? It’s my first time putting together a mood board so I’m curious!

Great pictures!! That Pottery Barn light looks almost exactly like a vintage bamboo light I bought years ago!!
Lovely job with the mood board — the colors are spot on! Only thing I’d add is maybe something with nailhead detailing…that’s definitely something that reappears in a lot of his spaces.
That chandelier in the last inspiration photo is AMAZING. I’m in love.
What gorgeous spaces. I’m in love with that dining room!
