Six of my friends are pregnant. Six!! And one just had a baby in June. Two August babies, one in October, two in December, and one in February. Just when the nuptials slowed down (although we did go to four this year), the babies are on their way and wedding showers are being replaced by baby showers.
I am a firm believer that good food + good friends = a great party, no matter what the decor. But it sure is fun to come up with a crafty way to set the scene for your friend or family member’s shower. Here are some ideas from Hostess with the Mostess and the related blog which are both great sites for party inspiration. They post ideas from the parties that creator Jen Sbranti plans as well as those hosted by regular folks and party-planners alike. The result is a web site that’s pure eye candy.
Here are some of my favorite baby shower inspirations from HWTM.
Bumble Bees
I love this table-scape from a bumble bee themed shower because it looks so easy and inexpensive. Generic white paper and plates plastic utensils get dressed up with some scrapbook paper (check out Paper Source for gorgeous choices). Sippy cups make it clear that the baby-to-bee is the guest of honor. And who wouldn’t want their own little cake for dessert?
The invitations are adorable but look like they cost a fortune. Try these for $1.30 each for 25-74 custom printed invitations:
Bedtime Stories
This shower theme has a special place in my heart because since starting our Book Club there have been three new additions and there are two more on the way. We always have a shower for the new mom and our gifts are, naturally, books. I think I would decorate each table in accordance with the book’s jacket color. These invitations are so sweet and are as low as $0.99 each:
Modern Nest
I think this one may be my favorite. I love the colors Ms. Sbranti chose, and there are so many cute little accessories that could be used.
These cupcake surely would make the event! They almost look too good to eat. Almost.
Martha’s got a recipe for cute cupcakes that would fit right in:
And some yummy-looking cookies, too:
These invitations are cute and inexpensive:

Have you been to any creative showers lately? Any fun games, cute favors, or tasty food?

Makes me wish this was my first baby so I could have another shower
Love the books and the bumblebees!!!
Thanks for the mention! It sounds like we’re SO in the same point in our lives, Laura — though I can’t believe you have 6 friends pregnant right now! That’s insane.
The gray and yellow bee theme is lovely — and unique! I’ll be keeping that in mind for the next baby shower I throw.
What adorable ideas. LOVE the bees!
such fun ideas..makes me want to have a party!!
These ideas are so adorable! Thank you for sharing!
Would it be rude to send this link along to my shower planners as a way of saying, hint hint?
Glad to see I got the monopoly on the October births! I’m already planning matching costumes for Tiny Steinie and Ella.
Hah hah! Jen, feel free! BTW, I love Tiny Steinie. I think you should just go with that name, regardless of gender.
I went to a shower recently with the most delicious and cute “rubber ducky” cake from Party Favors. The funny thing is that I guessed that it was from Party Favors based on the awesome quality of the design! I think it would be totally legit to request where your cake comes from.
I LOVE Party Favor cakes… Rach told me that she’s already working on the cake so I’m not sure what that means exactly but I know she’s not making it. She knows how much I love Party Favors so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
