My post yesterday on the freshman dorm room I shared with Erin of Elements of Style led me to wonder if my college decor and storage sensibilities improved through the years.
I wish I could say they had, but these photos of my sophomore room prove otherwise:

After freshman year everyone had single rooms, which was great for both space and privacy. I suppose I shouldn’t be too hard on myself – although there are still way too many stuffed animals on the bed, I didn’t display as many posters and some photos even made their way into frames. My new room even had space for a real bookcase, and I got rid of the wretched black wire crates.
When I returned from spending the first semester of junior year in England, I came back to a new dorm and gave myself a slightly more grown-up aesthetic.
Don’t be fooled – those stuffed animals are probably at the foot of my bed or piled into a canvas butterfly chair in the corner. However, by the time I reached 21 I learned the art of layering rugs, hung a paper lantern from the ceiling, strictly limited the posters, and used more picture frames. The Laura Ashley quilt remains (my mom probably laughed at the idea of buying me a new one), but all in all this room is a nice improvement over freshman year.
Do you have photos of your old dorm rooms, or even your first apartment? Now that you’ve grown up and learned more about design, what would you do differently to address the challenges of living in a small space?

I’ll have to look for pictures but I MADE a quilt for my sophomore year. It was rainbow fabulousness!!!
Its prob. a good thing I dont have photos of what my room used to look like…it was not pretty thats for sure!
I think your side is equally cute.
I WISH I could go on a shopping spree!
Ohhhhhhh, that makes me so sad. I totally don’t know where my dorm room pics are. My taste has most definitely changed. I had Winnie the Pooh up everywhere. EEEEK
