A HomeGoods Find and Furniture Re-Do

Here’s the problem with HomeGoods (or perhaps the problem with me): every time I go there, I buy way more than I planned to. Take Friday evening, for example. I went into the store to look for a Christmas ornament for a family ornament swap. I left with:

  • 3 ornaments
  • gift for my mother-in-law
  • gift for my best friend’s brand-new baby girl
  • stocking stuffer for my husband
  • roll of wrapping paper
  • gift bags
  • fabulous lamp

Upon returning home with everything, I said asked the husband to get the lamp out of the car.

Him: “A lamp?”
Me: “I went to HomeGoods, hon.” Really, that’s explanation enough.
Him: “Right…”

I just couldn’t resist the shiny, punched-out quatrefoil base and silky cream shade.

It’s a great new addition to our guest room, where it perches on a table I picked up at the Brimfield Antique Show a few months ago.

The table was cheap and hideous:
After two coats of Ralph Lauren’s “Sunwashed Blue” (which Home Depot put into Behr’s semi-gloss paint + primer combo), it became a funky and useful bedside table. Eventually I’ll stash some magazines and a basket of travel size toiletries on the shelf.

What’s your favorite HomeGoods find?

  1. Great find! The lamp is gorgeous, and I love the shade of blue you picked for the side table. It ties in perfectly with the throw pillows and adds a great punch of color!

  2. Your new lamp was quite the score!

I wouldn’t feel too bad about your latest trip to HG. You got some Christmas shopping out of the way and probably got a good price on what you bought too.

  3. I am so with you on this one. HomeGoods = Danger Zone. But, the lamp is perfect on top of that fantastic table. You really didn’t have any choice but to buy it :)

Homegoods is bad, bad news. I never leave there with less than $100 in damage. I have to limit my trips there since I always manage to find something I need.

  5. Averill says:

GREAT lamp. I’m a sucker for quatrefoil, too!

  6. 28 says:

Great table makeover – and I love that lamp!
