Travel Inspired Boys Nursery

Over the weekend I spied this adorable nursery. The hubs and I have traveled all over the place, so this design is particularly appropriate for our family. I love the argyle bumper, and that the blue is more of a sky-blue than a baby blue.

Good thing I spotted this inspirational design, because I can kiss my dreams of a raspberry-pink and yellow nursery goodbye for now, because this baby is a BOY!

When I first found out I was preggo, my gut instinct was that there was a little man cooking in there. When the hubs mentioned he thought it was a girl I fell in love with that idea. I found myself only looking at girl clothes, accessories, decor, and even birth announcements.

When we saw him on the screen and my deep-seeded suspicions were confirmed, I felt a little let down. Not upset, mind you – just a bit bummed.

However, as the day progressed and I told more people “It’s a boy!” the more I started to like the idea. I’m a girly-girl only child. I’m not athletic, and I don’t like bugs or playing in the mud. I’m not a natural risk-taker. To be honest, I think this little boy is exactly what I need. I will be forced to try things that are out of my comfort zone because he’ll want to try them. He’ll bring bugs and mud into the house and I’ll have to learn to laugh about it. God, I may even have to go camping or something horrific like that! Yet somehow I know that he’ll make it fun for me, because I will want to make it fun for him.

The best part, though, is that I have made my father the happiest man on the planet. He’s even more excited than Mr. JC  and is already talking about building his grandson a go-cart! I guess my dollhouse rehab project will have to wait. :)

For now, I’m letting it all sink in and batting around ideas for a nursery inspired by our travels – one that will be both fun and educational for our little boy. Over the weekend I thought up a craft project that lines up very well with this piece of art that landed in my inbox yesterday:

We’ve been looking for a map to mark all of our travels, and what better place to put it than in the nursery? This one is from Crate & Barrel’s outlet, and comes with pushpins. Perfect!

If you spy ideas for my little journeyman, pass them along!

Yeah I am so excited for Annelise’s boyfriend!!! And I think that a travel inspired bedroom would be totally chic and right up your alley! I’ll probably procrastinate my own chores at naptime today to go look up some fun stuff for your nursery :)

If you feel really sad about putting your dollhouse project on hold you are more than welcome to help me with mine ;)

I just couldn’t help but suggest Adventure by Whistle and Wink. That collection takes little boys on adventures around the world. It has endless decorating possibilities. It is a fresh new theme for little boys.
Congratulations on having a little boy. I would love to see your finished nursery.

  5. A boy! How exciting! Congrats, Laura!

I totally knew mine was a boy despite my dreams of pink! Ah ha. But don’t worry. Boys are LOADS of fun! Love your nursery idea! Our nursery is the colors of that argyle and we even have a baby blanket in that pattern!

Congrats on the baby boy! I think I understand how you feel — I’m one of two girls, most of my cousins are female, all of my cousins’ kids are female…in short, I live in a girl-dominated family. And I love it. I love shopping for my cousins’ baby girls, I love the dressing up, the dolls, all of it…so I think I’d feel similarly if I found out I was having a boy.

But there are loads of great things about boys — perhaps the least of which is you have so much latitude when it comes to creative nursery ideas. All the great color combinations….orange/blue is a current favorite of mine.

  8. So excited to hear that it’s a boy! I have two friends who just found out they are preggers so I feel like something is in the air. Love that nursery too!

Where did you wind up finding the bedding? I went to christinemills.net but am only finding info about her book and a blog. I looked at the blog and say nothing on there either. We are planning a world travel themed nursery and love the bedding. I just haven’t been able to figure out where to get it.

    Thanks for your help!
