I’m 99% sure I’ve arrived at Junior’s nursery design, but it’s taken me a few tries to get there. From the beginning I wanted to incorporate our love for travel, but beyond that I wasn’t so sure. To formulate my ideas, I looked back at a previous mood board and the internet to find images that struck me.
This was my initial pass, keeping the existing paint color in the room. It features bedding by Skip Hop that I found at The Land of Nod, but is available elsewhere. I love polka dots for kids – such an easy way to teach them about shapes! While one potential curtain/shade fabric carries the polka dots to window, the other brings in squares and diamonds. I think both would look equally good.
Products:

Here’s another look at the same design with Hawthorne Yellow from Ben Moore as the backdrop. Note that at least on my monitor, the color appears much more orange that the paint actually is in reality.
So why are we not choosing this nursery design? I requested free swatches of the bedding from Land of Nod and wasn’t happy with the true colors, which looked quite different in person than on the screen. However, I did learn that Land of Nod is great about free swatches; I just sent an email to customer service with my address, and three days later the swatches arrived. I also decided that there’s plenty of brown in the house already and want to bring brighter colors into my munchkin’s room. Ultimately, though, it was finding what I think is the perfect rug on Overstock to really set the nursery’s color scheme and keep the geometric elements that I love about this design. I’ll know for sure when I unwrap the rug this weekend and we (hopefully) paint the room.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with! I hope you love the rug.
I love Land of Nod. I ordered the dude’s Sophie from there. And you MUST get a Sophie the Giraffe. Bambinos go crazy over them. Love those airplane decals. So darn cute!
Adorable! Can’t wait to see pics of the finished room
It’s amazing how differently fabric can look on a computer monitor than it does in real life. Here’s hoping the rug works out!
I absolutely love the idea of the alphabet cards. I’m sure your little one will love hearing about your travels as he grows up and it will be a lesson in geography too. Interior decor as an educational tool, a novel concept!
Thanks for your comment on my dresser! If you are still in search of an atlas (I probably went to my thrift stores a thousand times before I found mine) here is an etsy shop that I have used for other paper products (like my in-the-works mobile) and they sell maps from atlases!! Love the direction you are taking with your nursery!
