Domestic Adventure’s Wardrobe Essentials

Welcome to a little guest post series called “My Wardrobe Essentials”! Over the next few days, some of my favorite bloggers will show off the items in their closets, dresser drawers, and jewelry boxes that give them their unique personal style.

First up is Erin of Domestic Adventure, a blog that follows her home-making adventures as she juggles life, love and her career. By day she is a fundraising and PR professional for a nonprofit organization. Erin lives near Bar Harbor, Maine, with her husband Chris and their dog Frankie. Erin posts great recipes, organization tips, decor and home improvement projects. Be sure to stop by Domestic Adventure to say hello!

I live in beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine, three hours from the nearest major shopping mall, and five and a half hours from a major metropolis.  When Macy’s and The Gap are the best you’ve got within an hour’s drive, it’s tough to stay up on style trends!

My lack of fashion access means that I generally stick to classics that can withstand a few seasons and accessorize those staples with fun shoes and accessories.  It’s amazing what a fresh pair of sunglasses can do for your ego when you haven’t bought a new pair of pants in a year!

Most days at work you can find me in a cardigan and straight black pants, accessorized by a belt, a fun print or cute jewelry, like this Ann Taylor LOFT look below.

Most of my work clothes are washable simply because the only dry cleaner’s is 40 minutes from my office.  It never fails that freshly dry-cleaned pants are marred by salt or sand on their first wearing, so it’s just not worth it! (My secret: most pants and sweaters that say “dry clean only” can be washed in cold water on the gentle cycle and dried on a rack or hanger!)

Before I moved to Maine, I loved to wear heels.  Unfortunately the terrain here just murders shoes, so I’ve switched to a more practical choice for the work day, like these wedges with round toes and a big buckle.  From pants to skirts, they work and will last me a whole fall-winter-spring season.

When running errands on weekends you can find me in a sweater and jeans, accessorized with some metallic flats and my standard wristlet/clutch (perfect to fit just my phone, keys, cardholder and Burt’s Bees lip balm).

Both the black shoes and metallic flats above are from Nine West, which has the best fitting shoes for me.  I can buy almost any shoe from them and it fits like a glove (or sock).

When it comes to jewelry, nine times out of ten you’ll find me in a classic pair of diamond or pearl studs.  But on a more casual day you can find me in fun long, dangling earrings. You can see my standard collection here…

So, that’s how I try to stay in style from a remote island town in Maine.  Now you can see why I stick to home projects and cooking and leave the stylish stuff up to Laura here at JourneyChic!

Thanks Erin! Head over to Domestic Adventure to read Erin’s great tips for making your home prettier and more functional.

I love your egg crate jewelry holder and the black shoes are adorable!

Um, I just realized that if you can have such great style in an island town in Maine, then I have no excuse living in a big city where the nearest dry cleaners is three blocks away and the nearest mall is less than a mile!

That egg crate jewelry tray is about the cutest thing ever!
