Our Wedding: Two Years Later

Today is our second wedding anniversary! The past two years have been filled with wonderful things: an amazing wedding followed by a fantastic honeymoon to Greece, buying a condo, adopting a cat, traveling to Scotland, France, and Puerto Rico, and starting a family.

The Mr. proposed on January 12, 2007 on this gorgeous bridge in Boston’s Public Garden park. Picture it covered with snow and ice:

That night we ate dinner at our favorite restaurant and went ice skating at the nearby Frog Pond. On the walk back to our apartment, a horse-drawn carriage crossed the street carrying a couple all snuggled up under a blanket. I turned to Mr. JC and said “See, that’s something romantic. How come we never do anything romantic like that?” Sixty seconds later as we walked across the bridge he got down on one knee and whipped out the ring. Once I got over my shock and happiness I felt like a jerk for accusing him of not being romantic!

Our wedding day was exactly what we wanted it to be. Even now, friends and family still reminisce about how much fun they had and how tasty the food was, which was our goal from the beginning. Other than the invitations, I designed all the stationary myself and assembled it with the help of my parents and bridesmaids. Looking back I’m so happy with how everything came together.

Let’s start with the gown, a lacy number by Pronovias with a trumpet silhouette. I loved it, although at the end of the night I could barely breathe. A little discomfort was well worth it, though, for how gorgeous I felt in it.

Unique and personal details were very important to me while we planned our wedding. As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, the day had a loose travel theme. Guests got their first look at this when they spotted our getaway car, a London taxi:

I chose the wedding’s color scheme based on some pretty wrapping paper from Paper Source, which I used on the programs and the favor boxes. The print was a slightly modern floral, so instead of giving my florist strict instructions on how to arrange specific flowers, I described the overall look and one flower request (Picasso calla lilies for my bouquet), and let her run with it. The end result was elegant, a little bit modern, and unfussy. I walked into the reception room and was blown away with how she nailed my vision perfectly.

My favorite homemade detail was the little tent cards on the cocktail tables that had funny love quotes on both sides. They looked cute next to tinted martini glasses with floating orchids, and gave people something to talk about/laugh at while they waited for the party to begin. This one, from Rita Rudner, reads “I love being married. It’s so great to find one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life.” :)

Our delicious cake was modeled after one I saw in the issue of InStyle Weddings that I bought the day after we got engaged. The baker used a detailed photo of my gown’s lace to create the design.

May 10, 2008 was a fantastic day! Everyone was on the dance floor, the food was great, the room looked fabulous, and we had such a blast with all of our friends and family. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. And in case you’re wondering, this wedding was not crazy-expensive. The venue, Butternut Farm Golf Club in Stow, MA was the most expensive part of it, but with plenty of research and a little luck I found great vendors at very reasonable prices. Making a lot of the details myself (and scouring the internet to find the best prices on supplies), allowed me to achieve the look I wanted without breaking the bank. If you’d like to know about any of the vendors I used, drop me  a line.

Happy anniversary, babe! I love you so much and am so lucky to have such a wonderful, hot guy to come home to every night. You are going to be a fantastic dad in seven short weeks, and I look forward to celebrating many, many more anniversaries with you!
