Chic Inspiration: Kent Youngstrom’s Glam Chandelier

When I spotted the work of Kent Youngstrom on Joss & Main recently, I knew it would be perfect for an installment of Chic Inspiration because of the bold colors and general happy, positive vibe that I felt. Although even the Joss & Main price was more than I can afford, this piece, “Chandelier”, caught my eye. The classic light fixture combined with the modern swirls of color are a fantastic contrast.

This work of art makes me imagine myself back in my early twenties, when I was living with a few girl friends and going out to bars and nightclubs . Except in this fantasy world, I have more money and rock star confidence than I ever had back then. So taking that into account, I put together a glamorous yet classic bedroom for a sexy young professional to come home to after a night out partying. The cabinet from Home Decorators is one I’ve had my eye on for a while but have no reason to buy it (or space to put it). It’s a little bit more money than I’d typically spend, but the cost is balanced out by that fabulous $99 chandelier. Check out HomeGoods for similar but less expensive lamps and pillows.

Since I can’t afford Kent’s gorgeous piece, this inepensive Andy Warhol print has a similar vibe – it mixes classic pumps with modern graphic design and colors.

Kent’s painting definitely lends itself to an outfit, too. I’m in love with this dress from Bloomingdale’s. Too much sequins can be overwhelming, but the simple silhouette keeps this dress looking chic and classy. Traditional pearls get an update with a rock n’ roll bracelet (reminds me of 1980′s Madonna a little bit), but the platform pumps are what make the outfit – those are zippers, folks. Those fabulous pumps give a great modern edge to the classic dress.

The wonderful thing about art is that although the artist usually has one thing in mind when he or she creates it, it’s up to the viewer to interpret. You may feel something totally different when you look at Kent’s work. What do you see?
