Chic Inspiration: Sweet as Cherry Pie

Can food inspire an outfit? Why not, when the inspiration is a perfectly styled photo of what’s sure to be delicious cherry pie. Kate from the must-read DIY blog Centsational Girl is as talented with a spatula as she is with a paintbrush. Her mouth-watering mini pies, made with fruit from her own cherry tree (seriously, who has those??) resulted in a beautiful photo that immediately made me think of my mom’s regular tea-times with her friends.

Mom and her gals rotate houses about once a month and while I’ve never attended one of these get-togethers, I imagine they look much like this photo (judging from my mom’s little teapot collection and the fact that one of her friends is an amazing baker).

When you’re running around after kids all day wearing jeans and a t-shirt covered in mushed peas, or wearing dressy clothes for work, it’s sometimes difficult to pull yourself out of “workday” clothes for those rare times when you can connect with your favorite women. So for a casual brunch with hot tea and yummy pastries, this outfit is a great choice. To be honest, I think this is one of my favorite Chic Inspiration outfits to date!

Admittedly, I’ve always thought that green and red together are too Christmas-y, but Kate’s photo showed me otherwise. The soft sage green of the Anthropologie shirt (with seams that are nearly identical to the ridges in Kate’s teapot) pairs nicely with the hint of cherry-red in the straw bag. Inexpensive linen pants are extra comfortable, but don’t take the tablecloth comparison too literally or you’ll be using a Clorox bleach stick before your brunch is over. The earrings were a great find – the filigree pattern is a near perfect match to Kate’s plates. And how about those platform espadrilles? I’m just dying over them!

This outfit is something I would definitely wear, and at such great prices I’m very tempted to let my fingers do the walking and make some (or all!) of those pieces mine.

Do you have regular gatherings with your friends, and do you try to dress up a little when you meet up?
