Yesterday I got a note from a mom in my neighborhood facing a closet conundrum. She and her sister are planning a professional photo shoot with their two kids, and she wants her outfit to coordinate with the kids’ clothes. The munchkins are planning to wear a cute sweater dress (the niece), and a mini argyle vest (the son), similar to these:
My neighbor already has a rich brown velvet blazer from J. Crew and a pair of dark rinse jeans but wasn’t sure what to wear with those pieces, especially since she isn’t crazy about pairing gray and brown together. To keep the look timeless and casual while nodding to the colors and vibe of the kids’ clothes, I suggested she hit up Old Navy for a scarf in neutral colors and a simple blue tee. The touch of gray in the scarf is the perfect compliment to her niece’s sweater dress. Floral stud earrings (which I also used in this fall outfit), and gold flats (which I blogged about here and recently purchased for myself) add a feminine touch.
She headed right to the store to find the pieces, and hope she had luck! Old Navy has a bunch of cute scarves right now. I think I need to do some shopping!

Great picks!
I’m hoping to get some family shots done once #2 gets here and I am going to need your help to coordinate outfits. I am clueless as to how to get us looking like we belong together without putting everyone in the same shirt which frankly would make us all throw up.
You’re in luck because I’m planning a post on that for next week!
BTW, we need to get together before your bambino arrives.
I’ve been thinking alot about family shoots too…and fall shopping! ah so much to do and so little time. I love the gap jeans and flats btw! I’m putting them on my “to buy” list!
I love that little sweater dress…clothes for little girls are so much more fun! I love your suggestions. Coordinating outfits for family shoots seems like such a challenge!
I love how you put this look together from kids clothes! It coordinates perfectly, but it doesn’t look like you’re trying to match. I would wear this right now!
Cute suggestions! My closet definately needs some new additions, especially with Fall around the corner. (Oh wait, I guess it’s fall already, but it was 97 degrees where I live today, that doesn’t really seem like fall weather to me!)
