Today's guest blogger is Emily from The Three Bite Rule, who's another Boston babe. She shares yummy recipes and entertaining ideas on her blog, and today's she's bringing us a great tutorial on how to dress up inexpensive glass plates with paper to create a unique serving dish. Welcome, Emily! When JourneyChic had a call for guest posts I was psyched and had a few projects in mind. My name is Emily and I write The Three Bite Rule about eating, cooking, restaurants and all things food. I … [Read more...]

Guest Post: Custom T-shirt Tutorial

Our Journey To Africa

Since I'm on a business trip this week, I lined up two great bloggers to share some crafty tutorials with you. First up is Kirstin from Our Journey to Africa, who I met when we were in the same Brownie troop way back in the day. She's here to share a step-by-step tutorial for customizing t-shirts using vinyl and simple stitches. Having read her instructions, I'm about two clicks away from buying myself a Silhouette Cameo! Hi! I'm Kirstin and I am very excited to be guest-blogging on my OLD … [Read more...]

Rocking Chair Rehab

painted kids rocking chair

Happy Monday, everyone! I'm happy to share a Goodwill project with you today. Unlike so many decor and DIY bloggers, I don't visit my local Goodwill store very often. When I do, I never find anything worth spending money on; just bad timing, I guess. That is, until I spotted a cute little rocking chair in the window of Goodwill one day. I brought it home for $15 - a good deal for sure, but it needed some repairs. Wood glue secured the wobbly spindles, but there were deep screw holes that I … [Read more...]

The Garage: Final Frontier of Organization

organized garage wall

A major organizational project for our home in 2012 is the garage. The fact that we live in Boston and have a garage - let along a two-car garage - is an anomaly and a luxury. It's also a the primary storage facility in our home since we don't have an attic or basement. Since we moved to our home in the fall of 2008, we've accumulated a lot of stuff. Last spring we eliminated a lot of junk by having a yard sale with a neighbor, but some of it remains. The biggest obstacles to organizing our … [Read more...]

Felt Flower Wreaths For All Seasons

felt flower Christmas wreath

On Christmas Eve I finished up my last holiday craft project, a felt flower wreath: I was inspired by a version that I found on Pinterest from Better Homes & Gardens, and used the instructions and template to make my own with some changes: Foolishly, I tried to wrap the wreath using one continuous piece of yarn. Not so easy to do when there's a cat sitting on your lap! Ultimately I used three separate very long pieces and glued the ends down in the back with some tacky glue. Next … [Read more...]

How I Got Crafty In 2011

DIY canvas art

Working full-time, parenting, and blogging in 2011 left me with very little spare time, but I'm quite proud of the few crafting accomplishments made during such a busy year. Although I always enjoyed crafting when I was a child, it was sorely absent from my life until my son's arrival gave me new inspiration. Although 2011 wasn't filled with nursery projects the way 2010 was, I still managed to come up with some ideas (with a little help from Pinterest) that added more creativity to our … [Read more...]

Sunburst Mirror Tree Topper {how to}

sunburs mirror tree topper

The clerks at the JoAnn store near my office really should know my name by now. I've seriously been in there five times in the last two weeks. No lie. On Friday I went in there with a Christmas tree topper in mind, and walked out with a small mirror for $0.99 and popsicle sticks for $1.50 after a coupon. By Saturday morning I'd created a sparkling sunburst mirror tree topper! I will be honest with you - my creation looks much less like something a 9-year old would create now that it's up on … [Read more...]
