My Childhood Dresser Revisited

teal dresser

I can't believe that in a week and a day my maternity leave will be over. I had such delusions about all of the things I would do during my thirteen weeks off. Silly me! One of my goals for my maternity leave (you know, for few minutes each day when I'm not feeding, burping, or changing Junior), was to finish a project we started loooong ago that would add much needed storage and color to our entryway. Remember this crappy old dresser from last October? Of course you don't - let me refresh your … [Read more...]

Weekend Projects: Art and Ikea

IMG_1794

It's Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. I spent a good chunk of mine working on some projects after a productive trip to Ikea with my mom and Junior. Junior was appropriately Swedish in his Baby Bjorn as we walked through the maze in search of a linen cabinet for our laundry room and whatever else caught our eye. We did find the cabinet (more on that further down), but it was the "whatever else" that makes me really happy. You see, I've always had issues with one of the walls in our … [Read more...]

Splish (Back)Splash

While roaming through Home Depot last weekend, we passed through the tile section and a pretty mosaic caught my eye. We've discussed adding a tile back splash in the kitchen, but didn't have any immediate plans to do so. For a $25 deposit, we took tile samples from HD home to try. Why not? The tile on the left was the one that originally appealed to both of us. I love that it's a glass and stone combination in a subway pattern. But after looking at them both for a while, we realized that the … [Read more...]

Our Chic and Cheap Patio Makeover

One of our 2010 home improvement resolutions was to toss the hideous plastic patio furniture left behind by our home's previous owners and make the patio a comfortable place to spend a summer afternoon. I'm pleased to say that we accomplished this goal! I had Crate &  Barrel's "Meridian" set in mind, but unfortunately they're not selling the round dining table anymore. A round table fits the space better and it's easier to pull extra chairs around it without someone's gut getting stabbed … [Read more...]

The Nursery: Final Reveal!

yellow and blue nursery design

The time has finally arrived for the nursery's reveal! I'm really pleased with how it turned out, although the design definitely evolved over time. There are still a few little touches we'll add in the future, but for now the room is ready for its new occupant. We started with our bright blue second bedroom, which we'd left relatively untouched in hopes that we'd soon have a reason to set it up as a nursery. I played around with a few different design schemes until settling on this one, … [Read more...]

Half-bath Makeover Part 3: Mirror and Walls

DIY bathroom mirror frame

Our half-bath makeover is complete! Well, basically. We may add a glass shelf on the right-hand side of the vanity to hold scented candles, but until then this project is done! I'm extremely happy with the results. It's a total transformation! Before, we had a tiny, builder-basic beige box with commercial-grade faucet and giant, glued-on mirror: We started by adding a new faucet and painting the room Benjamin Moore's Van Deusen Blue, swapping out all the chrome hardware for satin nickel, … [Read more...]

My Cat’s Few Minutes Of Blog Fame

I nearly forgot to mention that my furbaby, Whiskey, appeared on Desire To Inspire this week in the "Pets On Furniture Monday" series. It's such an adorable series; I love seeing how comfy pets get on our furniture, whether they're allowed on it or not! Whiskey is in photos 5 and 6. You'll recognize my living room! I didn't submit this photo, but it's too cute for me to not share. Needless to say, I'm a proud mama of my fat and furry troublemaker. :) Hop on over to Desire To Inspire to … [Read more...]
