Our House

Mr. JourneyChic and I purchased a three-storey 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath townhome in September 2008 and I’ve been attempting to personalize it ever since.  It’s only four years old and was in excellent condition when we moved in, so no overhauls are needed – just updating the builder basics to make it our own.  Although we’re just a few miles from downtown Boston, we miss the location of our old South End roofdeck topped apartment, but not the tiny 600 square feet.

My favorite aspects of our home:

  1. Large kitchen with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and a huge island that’s great for occasionally prepping food and often collecting clutter.
  2. The master suite with walk-in closet.
  3. Not having to fight over bathroom space or time.
  4. Having a two-car garage and therefore not spending hours cleaning snow off our vehicles or fighting for a space on the street.
  5. The laundry room! No more running down four flights of narrow stairs only to find that my clothes aren’t dry yet.

What I plan to change in the near future:

  1. Paint over the greige walls in most of the house.
  2. Replace most of the builder-basic ceiling lights.
  3. Frame out or replace the massive glued-on mirrors in the bathrooms.
  4. Replace bathroom hardware. Our faucets are the same as the ones in my office’s ladies room.
  5. Add dimmers to most lights.

Kitchen & Dining Room:
This is a partial view of our kitchen/dining room combo. I love the island, which has loads of storage on the other side. I’d like to paint the walls (color suggestions, please!), add a tile backsplash above the stove and sink, and make a curtain for the door. The door exits to our deck.
